Mr Stockley was recommended to us for my dear father's funeral in July, 2015. My Mother, distraught at losing her soulmate and husband of 60 years, drew strength and comfort from Mr Stockley's respectful and gentle support in planning Dad's funeral, and what a funeral! My father was a well-known and well loved man, and his funeral became a wonderful celebration of the man everyone knew. It gave inestimable comfort to Dad's family that the funeral was tailored exactly to the wishes of my Mother and to the stature of my Father.
When, a mere eight months later, my beloved brother, the baby of our family, passed away, Alan was our first choice to conduct his funeral service. This was a very different affair, my brother's world was much smaller than my Dad's, due to chronic illness. My Mother did however, very much want the funeral to include Lee's faithful group of friends, who had stuck with him and helped him enormously throughout his illness, and had helped to make his life as rich as anyone's. The funeral was to include them as much as the family. Mr Stockley's help in achieving a beautiful, inclusive service, in which everyone who had supported Lee throughout his difficult times was honoured, was masterful. He consulted with the family throughout, and made a terrible aching loss into a celebration of a life which, though too, too short, was nevertheless so very precious.
I wholeheartedly commend Alan Stockley's services to anyone who has suffered a loss. He is comforting, supportive and intuitive, he respects and defers to the wishes of the bereaved in such a way as to lift some of the terrible burden of grief from their shoulders and to take it upon his own. The Grimes family will be forever grateful to him.
