Being A Funeral Celebrant Is A Complete Honour

Many years ago in my teens, I lost a friend. When I attended her funeral I was very disappointed that the service bore no reflection on her personality. In those days funeral celebrants were pretty much unheard of, but I thought to myself that if I had had the opportunity to conduct her service it would have been a real reflection of how much she loved life, and how she lived it to the full. This has stayed with me, and as I approached a crossroads in my working life I reflected on what I really truly would love to do………. My decision was made, and I am delighted to be a funeral celebrant.

As a funeral celebrant, I work with….

I can be requested for at any funeral director in Hastings and the surrounding area, however, the majority of my work seems to be conducted with independent funeral directors of which there are only a couple.
I choose not to undertake too many funerals weekly as I like to spend time with the families and spend many hours creating a bespoke service, along with visits to the families some weeks after to check on their well-being.

Creating a funeral service

As every one of us is different, so too are the services I create, each service I write is written specifically to the person who has passed away. I spend many hours with the family learning as much as I can about them as a person, getting to know about their personality for me to write a service. It is quite usual to be approached and asked if I knew the deceased after I have conducted a service.
I always explain to every family I help, there is no right way or wrong way of conducting a service, it is simply as the family and the loved one would wish it to be.

It's an honour to be a funeral celebrant

I consider it an absolute honour to be a funeral celebrant, I enjoy meeting new people and learning about people and their lives. For me conducting a funeral service is an opportunity to celebrate a person's life, in a personal and meaningful way. It is the last and everlasting memory of that person and therefore needs to be conducted professionally, with care and kindness.
